Homework
Your child should read every day or be read to every day. When we expose our children to authentic (interesting) literature, we will help them to become lifelong readers. I read everyday, do you? Of course you do, you read street signs, cereal boxes, newspapers, magazines, directions, websites and novels. The ability to read will help your child reach his or her potential in life.
I am trying something new this year. Your child will bring home a “Rapid Word Chart” every Monday with directions. Please read the directions!! Your child needs to read the words on the chart as quickly as he can. If possible, please time her and write her time in the space provided. He will do this every night, Monday – Thursday, to help him attain fluency with these High Frequency Words. Please keep the paper in her folder and I will collect it on Friday.
There will also be other Language Arts homework and occasional Math homework Mondays through Thursdays. Several times during the year there will be a project for your child to complete at home.
If you would like your child to have more practice, access the websites on my blog and let them practice at their own pace.
Remember to be positive about all their efforts. Praise goes a long way to ensuring a positive learning environment at home and at school.
Check out the “Downloadable Information” page for word lists that your child should know by the end of 1st grade.

I really appreciate this website. I think it is a good idea so parents can see exactly what our children are learning.

This website is exceptional, I wish it were available when I was a child. Please keep this up as it is most helpful when trying to help a child with homework.
